Australian Mutuals History had a most successful COBA 2023 Convention on the Gold Coast. We were represented by almost our full team in Chair Greg Stevens, Treasurer Rosemary Harris, Trustees Joanne O’Donnell, Adeline Siew, Melissa Treacy and Senior Archivist Ben Woods.
With such a solid representation we were able to spread our wings and seek out representatives of mutuals we don’t often speak with. Hopefully we have created new links for work on exciting historical projects.
The most frequently asked question by visitors to our exhibition booth was which is the oldest mutual? That honour goes to Bank of Us who can trace their roots to the beginning of Launceston Equitable Building and Investment Society in 1870.
