Graham Burt, Executive Manager Operations of Unity Bank reached out to us recently to offer the transfer of historical documents to us for preservation and use by researchers. Much of the material consists of documents pertaining to significant transfers of business to Unity Bank between 2008 and 2010 when they were known as Maritime, Mining and Power Credit Union. It also includes board and financial documents of Power Credit Union which became a part of the Unity Bank fold in 2008.

Mergers can be a catalyst to receiving offers to donate records especially as they often come with an office move. It therefore becomes an opportune time to donate important heritage material to us.

In the 1970s and 1980s there were hundreds of credit unions operating in Australia and now there are 60 financial mutuals, mostly due to mergers. Australian Mutuals History holds records of many of those mutuals and it would be impossible to map all that history without referencing our archives.
