Thursday 21 October, 2021 is the 73rd annual International Credit Union Day! The celebrations are an initiative of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and CUNA. The latter instituted the first ICU Day in 1948 and decided that it should be marked annually on the third Thursday in October.

WOCCU says that for ICU Day, “The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. The day of festivities for credit unions and financial cooperatives globally includes fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades”.

Every year ICU Day is built around a theme of relevance for credit unions and other financial mutuals around the world. This year’s theme is “Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow.”  In 2018, in honour of the 70th anniversary of ICU Day, WOCCU, CUNA and “America’s Credit Unions” produced this video.
